The Sake Jump 'Rakuto no Yoake', a Japanese sake festival, was first held in 2007, bringing together a group of innovative new-generation brewers who dare to break free from traditional boundaries, infusing sake with new imagination and possibilities. This event serves not only as a platform for young brewers to showcase their talents but also as a launchpad for rising stars in the industry, playing a pivotal role in driving the future development of sake.
An Immersive Sake Experience Blending Heritage and Innovation
FWD Insurance Presents: Sake Jump Hong Kong 2025 'Rakuto no Yoake' will make its debut in Hong Kong from 6 to 8 June this year, specially selecting the historic FWD 1881 Mansion, a declared monument, as its venue. With 'heritage' as the theme, the festival will blend history with innovation, presenting a sake extravaganza like no other. Over 20 up-and-coming brewers from 13 prefectures across Japan will be in attendance, bringing with them their families' time-honored signature sakes and sharing their novel perspectives and passion for Japanese sake brewing. This will be more than just a tasting event; it will be an immersive journey into the heart of Japanese sake culture.
Curated Selection of Breweries Showcasing the Future of Japanese Sake
Hong Kong has long been enamored with Japanese culture and cuisine, and this sake festival has attracted enthusiastic participation from breweries across Japan. Several notable breweries will even fly to Hong Kong at their own expense to engage with local sake enthusiasts, exchange brewing philosophies, and share their brand stories, fully showcasing the diversity and potential of Japanese sake in the interplay between the old and the new.
The participating breweries will present a range of classic and innovative sakes, including highlights such as the mighty Hachinohe Shuzo (Mutsu Hassen), which ranked first in the 'World Sake Brewery' awards in 2021; Inatoagabe, a Craft Sake brand founded by brewers from the century-old renowned brewery 'Shinmasu', using younger koji to create a more approachable brew; and Haccoba, Hanano, Linne, and Wakaze, young and creative brands that embody the unique characteristics of their respective regions. Hachinohe Shuzo and Wakaze will also bring Sparkling Sake, a style that has captured the attention of sake enthusiasts in recent years, infusing the event with a refreshing and surprising crispness.
Top Mixologists from Tokyo Present Innovative Sake Cocktails
The festival has specially invited two heavyweight mixologists from '50 Best Discovery' in Tokyo, Japan, to showcase their bartending prowess: Wakana Murata, Head Bartender of Tokyo Confidential, and Yuichi Wakabayashi, Owner of Bar Wakabayashi. They will craft innovative and exquisite sake cocktails on-site, offering a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Wakana Murata excels in fusing Japanese elements with a minimalist and refined approach, creating distinctive cocktails, while Yuichi Wakabayashi, a former woodworker certified by the Japan Sommelier Association, presents creative cocktail menus with his unique personal style, bringing the essence of Tokyo's Nishiazabu bar culture to Hong Kong.
Masterclasses and Exchange Sessions for an In-Depth Exploration of Japanese Sake
In addition to the tasting experiences, Sake Jump Hong Kong 2025 'Rakuto no Yoake' will also feature a series of enriching programs, including:
● Japanese Sake Masterclass: Conducted by Honorary Chairman of the Hong Kong Wine Judges Association, Mr. Tony Ho, the masterclass will delve into Japanese sake culture and tasting techniques with the themes 'Japanese Red Wine vs. Red Wines from Around the World', 'What Can 0.37 Million Square Kilometers Give Us', and 'Sake, Dessert, and Music', offering an accessible and insightful guide.
● Brewer Exchange Session: This session will provide an opportunity for participants to get up close and personal with the brewers, learn the stories behind each bottle of sake, and understand the brewers' philosophies and passion.
